It is between the Atlantic Ocean to the east and Hendry County and Glades County to the west. It is south of Martin County and north of Broward County. Palm Beach County was established in 1909. It consists of land split from Dade County. Its current boundaries were established in 1963. It was much larger than it is now when it was originally established. It extended much farther north, south and west. Henry Flagler was instrumental in the county’s growth as he extended the Florida East Coast Railway into the area. Mr. Flagler also built the Royal Poinciana Hotel and the Palm Beach Inn, which was later renamed The Breakers. Mr. Flagler’s home, also known as Whitehall, is a National Historic Landmark. It is open to the public as the Flagler Museum.
Palm Beach County offers many parks, shops and restaurants. It has many cultural attractions, museums and theatres. It consists of 2,383 square miles of which 1,970 square miles is land and 413 square miles is water. Currently it consists of 36 municipalities. Some popular communities in southern Palm Beach county include Boca Pointe, Boca Falls, Valencia Falls, Boca Del Mar, Toscana, Boca Winds, Addison Reserve, Boca Square, Bexley Park and Delaire. Other popular communities in Palm Beach county include Olympia, Colony Preserve, Aberdeen and Canyon Lakes. It is a wonderful place to visit and a great place to live.
